Feverchild - Altering a Memory
2023 Rating: A Tier
2026 Rating: A- Tier⬇
2023 Original Comments:
Feverchild is authentically old-school, taking influence from the Post-Hardcore-tinged Emo bands of the 2nd Wave, such as Mineral and Texas is the Reason. Instead of deploying songs that are cheap copies of these 90s classics, Feverchild embraces these traits and engineers something all their own. Had this album come out in 1997, Emo artists would be citing it for years to come as a major influence.
2026 Addendum:
Feverchild was a bit ahead of the curve regarding the Second Wave Revival, huh? Regardless, as I’ve continued to listen to all Emo, both old and new, I must admit that the luster of this album has slightly tarnished, if only a bit. It is still an exercise in authenticity, vulnerability and catharsis, and any fans of bands like Be Safe and First Day Back should keep this Belgian five-piece on their radars.
