2023 Original Comments:

A short EP consisting of rejected songs from a future full-length, A Rise (And Fall) exemplifies the experimental and genre-breaching nature of 5th Wave Emo while employing the characteristics that made 4th Wave Emo so special: imperfect vocals that channel real human emotion, the infusion of spacious Post-Rock sections between cacophonous Punk-influenced Emo. This release is unlike anything else put out this year, and for that reason alone, is worth a listen.

2026 Addendum:

Relistening, I can hear just how indebted this band is to The Brave Little Abacus and, to a lesser degree, Kara’s Walk Home. This thing experiments with all sorts of tones to conjure vivid, if quite strained, soundscapes. The vocals are pure melancholy, provided you can put up with the general tonelessness of them. This EP rewards the listeners brave enough to embark on this 21+ minute sojourn of sadness multiple times with more clarity and understanding with each loop. One of the most underrated releases of the year.
