This release is perhaps the most prototypical Emo album of the year, but that’s totally okay in my book! Clean, twinkly riffs over confessional lyrics are almost always a winning formula, but perhaps a lack of variety and a dearth of truly standout songs stop this album from being as good as their other 2023 release.

Why I was being the fun police about this heavenly slice of Emo-Pop I’ll never know, but that’s probably the best word to use to describe this release: fun. Weaving in old James Rolfe clips from his reviews as a literal child, themes of loss of innocence and the boring side of growing up are naturally invoked. Though it doesn’t possess the diversity of their 2023 EP, the flow of the album is quite focused. Had there been another standout track like Talk to Strangers on here, this could have been in contention for AOTY. Regardless, both releases show that 2023 was the band’s strongest year yet.
