2023 Original Comments:
The incorporation of Electronic and Bedroop Pop elements into Emo and Screamo in the 5th Wave is well documented, though they aren’t everyone’s cup of tea. Gingerbee is boldly original in an already-stagnant scene and experiment generously with instruments, tones, structures and whole genres. They are the Parallax-era BTBAM of Screamo and I mean that as a good thing. One of the most refreshing listens on this list but a death sentence for Emo purists.
2026 Addendum:
Listen, folks - in reviewing hundreds of modern Emo releases (and listening to countless more), I’ve gotten a pretty good idea of what 5th Wave Emo tends to be like: experimental, indie, electronic and terminally online. These describe this release perfectly, and I pegged it pretty well in my original comments. However, since hearing this, I’ve also grown to love and appreciate so much else in this hectic landscape that it loses just a bit of shine in comparison. Still, this band is amazing, and the scene will forever miss them.
